The news that broke recently regarding Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ undisclosed meetings with Russian officials is just the tip of the iceberg of what is to come regarding the campaign’s ties to and contacts with Russia. It’s now been reported that other members of the Trump team, including Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, are now admitting that they too had contacts with Russian officials. It’s almost as though the Titanic has hit an iceberg and passengers are saying a Hail Mary and jumping overboard.

Sessions, of course, still maintains that he didn’t do anything wrong but should have answered questions in the confirmation hearing more accurately. Before Sessions recused himself in any future investigations regarding the campaign and Russia, Trump said that he had “total confidence” in Sessions. Of course he did. With Sessions at the helm of any investigation, it’s highly unlikely that investigators would uncover any wrongdoing.

Let’s be clear about one thing. Sessions did not recuse himself because he genuinely feels as though he shouldn’t be a part of them due to conflicts of interest. If that were the case, he would have done so already. He’s recusing himself because he got caught in a lie. He’s hoping that if he recuses himself that the controversy will blow over and the fact that he perjured himself during his Senate confirmation hearing will be forgotten.

I don’t think that the perjury allegations will be forgotten. At least I hope they won’t. Top democrats, including Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, have already called for Sessions to resign. It’s doubtful that he will resign at this point, but at least the conversations are happening.

It would be wonderful if Jeff Sessions were to resign from his position. He’s nothing more than a bigoted Civil War relic who has no place in modern-day politics. We already know he can’t be trusted. It’s time for him to go.

Dan Rather recently said that the “fuse had been lit” regarding Russian ties in the Trump campaign.   Rather also believes that soon the story will explode. I certainly hope so. I wish this weren’t the case. It’s bad for America. However, a cover-up would be much worse. The Russia debacle has to come to light. I hope that it soon will.
